The bushings are employed for insulating and bringing out terminals of the winding from the container to the external circuit. For low-voltage transformers this is accomplished by employing bushings of porcelain around the conductor at the point of entry. For high voltages it is necessary to employ bushings of larger sizes. In modern transformers the problem is met by using large porcelain or composition bushings for voltages as high as 33 h V, above that oil filled or condenser type bushings are used.
